$1 Million Dollars Awarded to First Overwatch League Champions

The London Spitfire became the first ever Overwatch League champions by dominating the Philadelphia Fusion last Friday and Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.  In addition to the championship trophy, a hefty silver sculpture that evokes the spired helmet of Overwatch tank Reinhardt, Spitfire took home $1 million dollars!   The live crowd size in the Barclays Center was estimated at over 18,000 and at any minute during the two-day event an average of nearly one million people were tuned in worldwide across a number of TV and streaming platforms.

 

Ubisoft Clamps Down on Rainbow Six Siege Cheaters

 

Last week Ubisoft took action and placed nearly 1300 players on probation for the use of various hacks which enable all kinds of cheating, from XP boosting to allowing bombs to be defused from any location on the map. Whether the two-week suspension is enough of a deterrent remains to be seen.  Ubisoft, however, hopes to solve cheater problems not by punishment but by removing the underlying cause at the software level.

 

Google’s Console Division Hired PlayStation VR Maker Richard Marks

Google’s games console division hired virtual reality leader Richard Marks, whose previous work includes nineteen years at Sony including designing PlayStation VR’s hardware.  Google has a track record of becoming a major player in the segments it enters, and the addition of Marks will provide strong vision and leadership.

 

The Latest Battle of Azeroth Short has Angered Fans

A new Warbringers video shows the long-awaited Burning of Teldrassil, and some members of the community don’t like the direction the game seems to be taking.  The video reveals that Sylvanas is responsible for the Burning of Teldrassil, essentially committing genocide against the Night Elves, killing countless innocents as the World Tree burns.
